I’m currently running Syn 3 in all three holes as recommended by the MOCO. However, there must be better options out there. The idea of running the same oil in the tranny as in the engine just doesn’t make sense to me.
What fluids are you running for your engine, primary and tranny? With the extreme heat in the summer and mild winters in the desert southwest, I’m curious as to what works will for you year round?
Hi there LiverPunisher, I run HD Formula + in my primary and HD 36020w50 in the engine and Redline Shockproof Heavy in the tranny and that combo seems to work great. I have neverseen the need to run the expensive Synthetics in the engine as good old Dino oil seems to work just fine. JMHO
Thanks for the reply oldfartjc. I’ve heard good things about the Redline Shockproof Heavy, it seems to be the favorite of most riders on this forum. In the primary and engine there seems to be tons of opinions as to which is best. I was just interested in what other Arizona riders were using and why. Whatever I end up putting into both, I think it will be a “full” synthetic instead of the Syn 3.

Not a lot of us Arizona riders on this forum huh?
Sure there is.
I just use that standard HD oil in both. Ride year round and no issues.
AMSOIL Long Life Synthetic Gear LubeSAE 75W-90 (FGR) in the tranny. AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil Dry clutch and belt in Primary. (I use to buy the cheapest stuff I could find for the Primary. It needs to be changed often because of the condinsation that accumulates and the clutch dust and the metal from the chain and sprockets)
