Default Lowering a Bike

As a 5'7" male, I'm limited as to the HDs that seem to fit me. The Dyna Lowrider, Deuceand FatBoy seem to fit me the best. But the bike I like the best is the Dyna Wide Glide. I know that the dealership can lower the bike. But I'm not quite sure how this is done. Do they change one or more of the following: saddle, shock, other? Which ones of these, when changed to lower the bike, changes the handling or rideability of the bike.

Thanks,
Mike

There are several ways to lower the height for shorter legs and they don't necessarily need to be done by the dealer.

Harley makes several variations of seats to lower the rider in the saddle. You can look at many choices in teh accessories section of their web site.

You can also by aftermarket rear shocks. Progressive is a brand popular with a lot of the guys on here, You can get a pair normally under a couple hundred bucks. These will make the WG sit like the Low Rider.

Do a search under the Dyna section of the forum. These is a lot of related information.

Hope this helps.

Don't limit your choice of bikes because of your height. I'm 5ft.2 and ride a Street Glide and also a Fatboy. They can all be lowered. Trust me.

Good point, many guys that are vertically challenged have managed to flat foot the touring bikes. I plan to lower mine with 12" shocks in the rear.

Other options, lowering springs for the front end. Lower seats. High heels!

Pardon me...

Hope this isn't a high-jack but it's a question related to lowering...

I bought my bike as a basket-case... got it on the road and certified, etc.! Thought all was good. However, I've come to realize that the bike was lowered and the jiffy stand that was purchased for the wide glide was a stock stand. Now... I know I can take it to a local shop and have them heat and bend the stand so I get more (actually it would be "SOME") lean when the stand is down, but is that the common cure?

I know this shop knows what it's doing so I really not worried about the quality of the heating, bending, and cooling, but can one actually pruchase a jiffy stand for a lowered bike without having to have it modified?

Thanks Much!!!

Kilti yes you can purchase a lowered jiffy stand / kickstand

and yes us that are or the shorter stature do ride bikes that have or have not been lowered
and it can be done in many of ways ......

Progressive make a great lowered soft ride shock !
there is also a shock relocation kit that moves shocks back 1 inch to lower the bike
you can also purchase a lowered Swing arm that can lower your bike up to two inches

I am only 5'3" and I ride my bike with a 6" over front end (yes raised)
but I am looking for a great pair of shortened shock (Like the progressive shocks)

My wife had a Sportster and we had to lower it because she is 5'2". We put 11" Progressive Shocks on and added a lowering kit which changes the angle of the shock. We added a solo seat and she could finally ride it. The problem now was it rode like a hard tail. She hung in there though. I'll give her that. But it beat her to death. We finally found her a Fatboy and we put an 1 & 1/" lowering kit on it and a barebones seat and she loves it!

I'm 5'7" as well and just bought a Softail Custom (Oct06), which I think is a relatively taller bike. I don't mind that much - I can only put 1 foot flat at a time on stops, but no big deal. I was going to get a lowering kit, but I plan on getting the Retro Seat (thinner), and want to see how that feels before I adjust further.
