2014 Sturgis
I'd love to go by bike, but since I live in the UK, I'm not shipping mine over and back for it. I'm sure I could find the answer, but since I'm reading here and someone might be able to tell me immediately:
What's the cheapest way of hiring an HD (either in SD or in an interesting neighbouring state which I can make a bit of a trip of) and do they have exclusions for the Sturgis period?
Iron horse North of the Chip is clean and quite, less expensive.
stayed at shade mountain in Piedmont, clean and very quiet, run by CMA people, but they were cool and did not hassle anyone who was not CMA or into that.
stayed at a hotel in Spearfish as well.
got real lucky, and have a friend who bought a cabin between deadwood and sturgis, stayed there last year for free! (well, I bought them a bunch of alcohol)
will stay there again this year.
deadwood is a fun stop, lots of bikes, gambling, deadwood cigar shop kicks ***.
Sturgis coffee is awesome.
alpine inn in Hill City is a great place to eat.
lots of great riding, Go early in the morning to avoid the congestion on the roads.
speafish canton is great, needle highway, etc...
concerts at the chip are interesting, to say the least.
not a fan of the Full throttle, seemed like it was douche bag capital of sturgis.
IF you goto town One-eyed Jacks is a large bar, they have lots of scantily clad female barmaids, fun place.
easy rider saloon is also Nice, they have free concerts out back all day long, Not the biggest acts, but fun.
there is a little bar outback there, wet t-shirt contests after dark, they went full nude last year if you are into that.
And yes I did win!

on a similar note, you will see lots of women wearing things they probably should not be.
out of shape grannies with no shirt and pasties! and that is IN town.
Most cops will leave you alone if you are not looking to be seen,
DO NOT speed, unless you want a ticket.
IF you have apes Make sure you are within the height requirements, even if you are you may be pulled over and checked.
as with all rally's food in town in very expensive for crappy "fairfood"
we stick to like subway, or other chain restaurants.
if you are looking for a deal on anything, most vendors work all the major rallies, so parts, accessories, and things like that normally don't come down in price.
t-shirts that say sturgis and the year they almost give away be the end of the week.
Have fun, Ride safe, people watch, check out the rally.

That said, if you stay at any campground to the east of Sturgis, you will spend much time in traffic getting out on the road to see the rest of the Black Hills. If you are not a party animal, stay in a campground ANYPLACE but east of Sturgis. However, if you are a party animal, the Chip, or Glencoe campground, will satisfy your every need. The nude ride at Glencoe will make it all worth while!
100% agree with Shortmon's post. Subway is your friend.

I stay at a hidden campground at exit 37 seven miles SE of Sturgis on I90 called RushnoMore. The private bathrooms/showers make it all worthwhile, along with the food on site. Between RushnoMore and I90 is the Bulldog campground, where you literally kick the cow chips out of the way before you pitch your tent.
