Defective radiator caps. Incorrect hydraulic valve. All was fixed and this is the best bike I have had my hands on hands down. Cooler, quieter, stronger and smoother than my 06 or 09 Ultras. I am now a happy rider. oh yea, stops on a dime. I have not seen anyone say they did not like their 2014. Just a short time before the recall.

Just kidding the new 2014 models are the best Harley has ever come out with
I was told by a sales rep that the issue was due to backwards installation of temp guage - which caused seal to fail. Once they figured that out, problem solved. Can't validate this but they said that information came down from on high.
Yeah you plug those temp gauges in backwards, what should you expect, the darn needle is going to go the wrong way and the coolant will freeze. I remember when they did that with the speedos and nobody could put any miles on their bikes as they kept showing negative numbers. If you really want to know what going on behind the scenes ask the sales reps as they better than most understand the complex technical issues.
Buddy of mine just bought one too. He's had a few issues like glitchy bluetooth, ignition barrel lock stuck, the recall and so on. Pretty bike, and I've ridden it. Very nice ride. Only reason I'm chiming in is to remind you they are just released and newly retooled. Road testing and consumer reviews are still in their infancy. Question is do you want to be one of the test category or wait a few years for bugs to be ironed out? Personally if I were in the market I'd wait a year for them to get things straight (easier said than done if you want a bike now, I know). On the other hand you'll have the warranty so HD will make it right.
well I have one and love it only problem I have had was I needed a new radiator cap and the clutch master recall
as far as working out the bugs I don't see many lets look at it
same frame with new front fork/triple tree assembly
same transmission
same primary with a new update on the compensator
same motor with new cylinder heads and cams
same basic ABS with the new linked system added to it
the new to the touring line can/bus electrical system that they have been using on the soft tail and dynas for a few years now so that's not really new
and the new infotainment systems
I may end up being wrong but I just don't see that big of a chance for a lot of problems, yes I see them changing some software in the radio a few times to get some of the issues there taken care of but still don't think its a big deal.
We bought (2) Limited's. We traded in 2012's on the 2014's. Between my wife and I we have had 8 Limited's in 7 years. The 2014 is the best HD made. We would do it again. We love new Harley's.
Keep in mind I've only had my Limited 4 days, but I don't regret it at all. Moved up from the Ultra Classic to this Limited, and its worth the extra 2k to buy the Limited. Heat is the biggest thing to me, this bike runs so much cooler.
If heat were the biggest thing you'd probably not be buying a Harley.. One day I am going to take all the people who say things like this and search their old posts about when they bought their pre-2014 bikes and see how many said heat wasn't an issue. Ok, no I'm not..
One of my local dealerships had a 2012 ultra classic with less than 2000 miles on it so I stopped in to look at. My O1 ultra is getting tired. to make a long story short they had a 2014 peace officers addition sitting on the floor so I was able to check out all the new improvements. $4000 more than the 2012. Because I'm not a cop I couldn't buy the peace officer edition, but that's OK my new vivid black limited will be in two weeks. They can't keep them on the floor. the moco must be doing something right for a change.
PS if a peace officer had not come in to buy it by 12/20/13 I could have bought it then but I might have missed out on the one coming in in two weeks.
I have to say I did like the limited edition peace officer version, I have a couple of state troopers in my family but I doubt they would have respected me anymore for respecting them with this purchase. Just sayin.

I would stay away for a year or two, due to The Factory's decades-long practice of using customers for their R&D (Research and Development).
Two year unlimited mileage warranty I put 10,000 miles a year on my bikes if it turns out to be a problem they will fix it because in two years I'll be riding something else.
But it will be a black Harley.
