Well my uncle came through and said the bike in question is a 1950 Hydraglide Panhead. Sound right to the guru's out there?

The pictures of the two red bikes that JB posted, the top one is a 1949 and has a trim piece that says "OHV" on the front fender. The lower picture is a 1950 and does not have the "OHV". The picture of your Grandfathers bike does not have the "OHV" either. Of course he could have left it off after the paint job, but I doubt it because it would have left holes. My money would be that it is a 74 rather than a 61. There was not a lot of difference in price, and the 74 was faster and was just a more desireable bike. So, I vote for a 1950 74ci Panhead. Lee

ORIGINAL: Big Ted

So my Grandmother's bike is either a 61EL or a 74FL OHV? Or we are still undecided?
If the tank emblem is original, it is either a 1949 or 1950 Panhead. It could either be a 61 inch EL model, or a 74 inch FL model. Only way to know which engine size is to see the VIN on the cases. Since your uncle remembers it as a '50 HydraGlide, it probably is, especially after Lee pointed out the front fender emblem difference. And Lee is probably right about the question of whether it is a 61 or 74 incher; the EL series were scarcer.

And the girl sure is perdy too!
hehe

Definitely a hydroglide I think.
Duo-glides had the rear suspension, I think.
Cool ontop of cool, whatever that bike is.

I was thinking about sending this in to Hog tunes but not sure who to send it to. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have no idea what year bike it is but I do know that is an incredible family picture. Wouldn't it be cool if Grandma could help ya track that bike down?

I just came across this old thread of mine and still giggle every time I look at this picture. Grandma is still alive and going strong!

Most likely a '50. The lower legs on '49s were not polished and were painted black. Not impossible to change, but not as likely. The trim stripes (Sgt. Stripes) were a popular accessory and very common in the day.
