It looks like a 1949 Panhead. I had a 1948 Panhead with the hand shift and the foot clutch. It had a springer front end. A buddy of mine bought a 1949 Panhead and the two were amost identical except his had a hydrolic front end. His was all black so the color scheme on this one kind of confuses the picture for me.

Please look past the paint on this one, as my grandfather painted it himself back in the day.
I am going to try to attach a picture of my 1948 and I have found a picture of a 1949 in a Harley book that I am going to try and scan. If that works I will post it later. The picture in the book makes me more certain that it is a 1949.
With a little luck this will be the picture of the 1949. Now if you tell me that the beautiful lady on the bike is your Grandmother, my day will be complete.
There should be a vin number on the bike somewhere? I don't remember what year they switched from the engine to the frame, but if it's still on the engine look on the right side of the engine case just behind the carb. For instance I have a 1942 flathead WR, and the engine number is 42WR6498

hope that helps
Well yeah, I wish I had this bike!!!!! If I did, I would know what year it was. Unfortunately in the last 47 years it went away at some point. But the memories remain, they just don't remember what year it was.

I found this picture of a 1950. Notice the three small horizantal trim pieces on the rear fender just in front of the tail light. I don't see those on the picture that you posted. Do you still have access to the bike, or just the picture?

Well your day is complete!!! That beautiful lady is in fact my Grandmother. She was 37 years old when that picture was taken back in 1958. She is now 84 and she just recently saw my Harley for the first time, and said that it reminded her of hers way back in the day. She dug out this old photo and gave it to me.
