Default ABS Front rotor loose

Hi everyone,

I tried searching and didn't find much on this.

So I picked up my 2014 Street Bob last weekend. So far I have 150 or so miles on it. It's still totally stock including the factory wheels HD put on.

From the very first day I noticed a clanky rattling in the front end. I took the time to start shaking parts of the front end today and realized the noise was the front rotor.

Is this normal?

Knowing that a mechanic would have had to change the wheels when the bike came to the dealer I'm thinking possible human error during the switch, or does the loose fit serve a function?

The main reason I'm writing is when I called the service department and described what I observed they told me to bring it in. The guy would not even tell me if the brakes were supposed to rattle like they are....I'm only an amature mechanic but if you work on one type of machine all day I'm pretty sure you could give me some indication if something was wrong or not by my description.

Does anyone else have any insight on if there is truly a problem or not?

So now that I know what my day off on Friday will consist of (a trip to the dealer) the real question is should I ride it to the dealer or play it safe and put it in my truck for the trip.

Thanks,

Eric

What you're probably seeing is the play in the full floating rotors. If they're worn out, just pick up a new set on line from ebay. You can pout them on yourself in about a half hour.

why would a mechanic have to swap wheels? did you get a wheel swap in the deal? is the rotor loose at the bolts that hold it to the hub? what kind of wheel is on there? you make it sound like there was a wheel swap need more info. if rotor is loose at the bolts that hold it to the hub/wheel I would not ride it anywhere. that bike is brand new, and I would have the dealer pick it up. this whole thing sounds fishy

Naw I bet those little buttons that hold the floating disk onto the inner part of the rotor are loose. Prolly nothing to worry about.

Have the dealer pick it up. No service guy worth his salt will diagnose your problem over the phone - that's why you got the response you did.

Thanks for all the responses. To answer your questions yes the bike was purchased with the "Magnum 5" Wheels to replace the stock spoke ones. Thus the reason for having them pulled off and switched. I didn't realize everyone would hone in on that detail so I left it out.

After some research on the interwebs. It looks like the full float Rotors I have are designed that way. I'd never seen these before and from what I've seen and read now the play in them is perfectly normal...

I definitely need to go get a shop manual.

Thanks for all the help.

They most likely moved your rotors over to the new wheels and didn't tighten them up properly or didn't use locktite on them. Check the bolts that hold the rotor to the wheel....if they are loose, have them come pick it up.

I agree.
I've only had one rotor (front wheel) come loose and I removed each bolt and used Loctite "blue" to secure them.
