Mounting from the rear? Interesting approach, I might have to try that one just for fun. For me I think it has more to do with having a short inseam. In 40+ years of riding, most of my previous bikes I'd mount from the left, even the Fatboy. When I moved to the Road King I found that my boot would scrape the top of the right side bag so I started mounting from the right and had no problem clearing the bags. Added a rider back rest for a trip out west and with that in place the right side is definitely my only option.
Cops all mount from the same side to allow themselves to coordinate with each other. They always know how their buddy is going to get on his bike. Saves confusion. Lots of reasons to mount from the right, but no problem getting on from the left. They just all want to be doing it the same way…everytime.
This also allows them to get used to how their firearms, night sticks and utility belts swing when mounting. Tour paks also open on the right side. They keep different things in the right than left saddle bags.
I am always right.
Oh it feels good to say that.
With the bike tilted to the left, you have to lift your leg to a higher angle to mount from the left.
And I'm right handed.
