With that 80" motor, acceleration was probably a bit less than a modern 883; they only had 50 something hp. Still had gobs of torque, not the fastest to 70 or 80, but could hold that without straining. I ever run across one that's intact and rideable for around 5 grand, it's mine. Then I'd put another 5 grand into it...

Ok. I've seen one of those before. Thanks for the pic. Cool looking bike, but I think I like the RG better. Just wish I could find a carb'd one for cheap, even if it needs work.

Kinda makes me smile when I read all the love you Americans have for FXRs when it came out no one liked them apparently as they were deemed to look to European.

I think one of the reasons the FXRT didn't sell so well, was that the FXR, Electra Glide, and Tour Glide all used the same frame, but the front forks were different. I'm guessing that people who wanted a Touring model preferred the larger front forks. I seem to remember a FXR Convertible also, and that didn't sell so great either.

The Electra Glide never used the FXR frame.

You're right! From what I now understand, the FXR frame was "similar" to the Touring frames, but, for one thing, had a different rake & trail. I think the original FX may have used the same frame as the Electra Glide? Thanks for the correction.

Well I owned an FXR while they were still part of the model line and I loved it back then, as I do now. The negative comments I heard back then were that they looked Japaneese with the plastic side covers. But, silly me back then, I traded the FXR and some $$$$ for the hot new bike, The Road King. I was hooked on Harley crack back in those days. The King was a great bike, but regretted letting the FXR go after about two seasons on the King. But, that was my experience, YMMV.

Owned an FXR for many years. For back roads, it was smooth and fast and an all around great bike. Now a day's, I like my SG a whole lot more. It can eat up the miles on the slab way better than the FXR and is fast enough on the backroads.

Like you I owned an FXRS from new kept it for 13 years before trading it in for a Nightrain, which I don't regret but gotta say I often wonder where it is now and often look out for it at bike shows and so forth.
