Surdyke offers a 20% discount with free shipping. You can find discounted hotel rates online. I don't have AT&T. I'd never attend a HOG function. Basically HOG is useless for me.
I saved enough to justify buying the analog speedometer and tach! 20% off, no tax/no shipping was pretty good! I was going to use another site with the 20% off, but would have paid for shipping, so seeing your post was an added benefit to me...so Thank you!

Let me preface this by saying I have the utmost support for any and everyone that joins the military that join for the right reason (ie. not just for free money, to avoid jail, etc). Two of my brothers and my father served and I have lived in close proximity to the military my whole life. Hell, during my time in Virginia I think I only had 1-2 friends that weren't in the military compared to the countless that were. The point is, I support the military and those brave enough to serve.
That being said, it isn't for everyone and being a part of something "bigger" doesn't have to be as life altering as joining the military. I am NOT a member of a local HOG chapter, I never have been, and I have never renewed my national memberships that I got free with bike purchases. However, I know for a fact some local chapters are extremely active in charity work and if you join one that is you are very much getting involved in something bigger, assuming you take part in those functions, rides, etc.
Hate all you want on HOG members, but it is a valid place to meet people of a like mind and take part in things that help your community IF, and ONLY IF, the chapter is worth a damn. I have seen several chapters that are the polar opposite of this and exist for nothing more than 10 mile rides to Starbucks so a bunch of RUBs can brag about whose chrome is brighter and talk about how they rode 1,500 miles last year.
HOG exists for a reason and it is one of those things that is only as good as the chapter's members make it, and it very much can be something "bigger" if those members see to it that it is.
The national HOG, well, yeah, it is a corporate advertising machine, but hey, at least you can get a free tow out of it and a few discounts.
