As bad as my back hurts I've been converted to my wife's idea of camping.....

The nearest hotel with a bar.

I hook the trailer up behind the motorhome and go to wherever I want. Once I get there. The bike comes out and I enjoy exploring. I am done with tents or sleeping on picnic tables. Did that when I was younger and had less money to go. Wanted to go or had to go and did what was necessary. It didn't always seem like fun when I was doing it but it was what it was.

I used to sleep under my bike in a sleeping bag, now I sleep next to the lil'lady in the hotel. Soooo much more comfortable.

If your new at camping, practice at home setting your camp. This includes tent setup and breakdown, lighting and starting your cooking set and making something to eat, packing and unpacking your bike. Do this in daylight and in dark. Then venture out to a local camping spot for a overnighter and trying out your skills. Do this a few times before going out and doing it for real, meaining, long ways from home and amenities.

I am obsessed with bike camping. Hubby and I camp a fair amount off of the Harley's. I have written a fair amount on here about it and have a Pinterest page focused on motorcycle camping to all my gear choices. We do comfort camping. Last summer my hubby got me a new REI car camping tent that goes on our bikes. It is the REI kingdom 8 with a garage attachment.
My key tips are 1 buy a chair. My favorite is the REI flex lite weighs less than 2 lbs and about the size of a 1 liter. Also a micro table. If alone the REI camp dome was a great 2 man tent that I used before marrying. Polar soft sided coolers are amazing.. Pocket stove can't be beat for $35. My other main tip is fit everything in a duffle bag. I use different sized REI duffle bags. Started with medium from REI. Now 2 large ones ( one on my bike a deluxe
, one on his a road king ). We even traveled across country and camped for our honeymoon during sturgis. That time in a REI half dome 4 with a backpacking double sleeping bag by big anges.

I guess it depends if the camping is the ends to a means or a means to the end. I camp on my bike, but usually it is because I am on a two or three day trip somewhere and need to stop to rest and unwind. I take minimal gear then to keep the load light. Shelter half tent, Sleep system or bed roll, clothes, toiletries, some food, a grate to cook on, and a bottle of something. I guess if it was a motorcycle camping trip just to camp, I could see taking a lot more comfort items.
