Man, I would be afraid it would suck in my pants legs and get ugly from there. I remember getting my pants caught in my 20" Huffy when I was a kid coming down a hill, can't imagine it at road speed on a 700lb machine.

I remember seeing them a lot in the 70s. They were noisy, slinging oil and dangerous as hell looking. Nope...not for me.

Had a S&S 113" Evo in a Paughco Rigid frame that originally had a 80" Shovel motor. Narrow (1.5") enclosed primary belt that held up with the tired shovel, shredded instantly with the much bigger much fresher Evo. Had a 5 into 4 trans, kick only, no batt, morris mag, set up. Only way to connect the 2 at that time, 1997, was a Primo 3" open belt. Worked great, never had 1 mishap......with the open belt that is, lol.

Anyway I find the open primary to look freaking awesome it is just so cool to be ale to see whats going on with the motor. But it looks sooo cool.
Function over form, logic dictates that it must serve a purpose other than looking cool in order to have that much money dumped into it.

I see a lot of them where bike nights, etc. are held. Almost all of them are on custom bikes with big block motors.

If you like the idea then run one. You will probably have less problems than some of these guys do with their compensator sprockets.

I installed a BDL on a custom bike running a 113" EVO that I built for a guy several years back. Personally I thought it was cool as hell but I don't know if I would want one on anything I was going to ride of any distance. The bike I built was for a guy who was really only using it as a Sunday rider and bar hopper, nothing more.

I thought a few times about installing one on my 2010 Wide Glide now that we have the Ultra for touring. I am slowly turning my Wide Glide into more of my "hot rod" and commuter bike anyway.

When I have a couple of thousand dollars that I don't know what to do with I may install one, just don't know when that will be.

Mike.
