Just wanted to see what type of hose clamps you guys and gals prefer.
I was changing handlebars on the Fatboy, and noticed the fuel lines (carbureted) use crimp-type clamps. I have never been a really big fan of these and was wondering if I should change them out. I was thinking maybe the spring type.
What say y'all?

I was told once, by a Cooling System Design Engineer who I worked with at Chrysler, back in the 70's, that Spring Clamps provided a more even clamping force all around the hose than any other type of clamp . . . it's what Chrysler was using at the time so . . . . who knows. In any case I personally prefer and have never had any issues with the Screw Clamps. I always found the Spring Clamps to be kind of a PIA to work with; particularly in tight spaces.
What's with those crimp type clamps? I think they call them BMW clamps?
Not too hard to install, if you got the right tool, but difficult to remove. I don't really like them.
I use screw clamps on something that has to come apart often.
Those crimp clamps I use on something that dosen't have to be taken apart often. I my line of work there called "Otiker" clamps. Widely used in the beverage industry on hoses, With standing liquid and gas pressures upwards to 125#'s. Unlike the old days the clamps are stainless now instead of steel.
As far as removing them, you can take a good pair of wire cutters and cut the crimp part of the clamp.
You can get the crimpers and clamps at any soda supplier and they have multitudes of sizes on the clamps.
One eared Oetiker clamps on fuel and oil hose.Have one spring clamp on FXR oil drain tube.Got a beautiful Diamond brand hose clamp pliers, works perfectly.Anyone who has used regular pliers knows how they roll off-frustrating for something so simple.
Bad thing about screw clamps, they easily bite into the hose.
If you get the clamps for silicone hoses, they do not have the open gear and won't damage the hose.
