I have a 45 - 60 minute ride to work one way and I'm a year 'round rider. The leather overpants provide more cold protection than the chaps. The chaps are used as the weather dictates and then during the summer occasionally depending on the ride but solely for protection in the event of a mishap. For me both are just as easy as the other to take on and off.
I'm with Cohiba Joe. I have leather overpants and chaps. Chaps for the summer, leather overpants for the weather in fall/winter/sping as it can get cool and rainy. Was on a nice ride yesterday near the coast and got some rain. Glad I had the overpants. Everyone else who had chaps had some serious "wet" issues.
