It happens. Don't be shy about asking help to get your bike up. Its a back breaker for sure. Don't risk it unless you are totally alone and cant call a friend close by. Bruised pride better than ruptured disc any day.
I wish I could take back all the dumb lifting I have done. Be careful.
I hear you. Using the back to the bike technique, grabbing the handlebars and saddle bag guard, and then walking backwards, it popped right back up. I was on a slope too. Not too difficult.
I sure as **** wouldn't post this if it happened to me. Since you did I'll give some positive advice, those scratches will buff out. Remember,if a tree falls in the forest...
If you find you can't lift the bike, have somebody stand on the floorboard on the opposite side as you lift. Their weight will help and you won't be at risk for a ruptured disc. Remember also to put the bike in gear before you start to lift it.
I volunteered to lift a bike in Daytona last year in front of a crowd. I couldn't manage it without somebody standing on the floorboard, but at least I know the mechanics. A week later, a stranger dropped his Goldwing a few yards behind me and I was able to show him what to do.
Sucky deal for OP and glad bike's OK. For the member requesting pics...why would you want to see someone's pride & joy on its side...?? In the moment of panic you'll want to upright bike ASAP vs. sit & take selfies while fluids go where they shouldn't.
