Default NY EZ pass help please.....

I will be commuting during good weather on the Thruway, so need an EZ pass. I already have one for my car, and have the NY12 commuter pass (first 30 miles free). Instead of $2.50 each way, I now pay $1.05. If I get the motorcycle pass, it's only a 50% off, and will then have to pay $1.25.

so: 1) can I somehow use my car pass w/o them knowing I'm using it on my bike,

2) Is it right that a bike should still be paying more than a car?

Are you really quibbling over 20 cents or did I miss something?

Regardless -

1 - Maybe. I'm not exactly sure how it works but if you cruise through without the transponder, a photo is taken and ticket issued based on your registration. If you have a transponder, does it even take a pic? Don't know. If so, is there really a way to catch the difference? Is there a guy looking at every picture and then says "Hey - that's not a Toyota Corrolla!"

What I do know is that you need to register each vehicle to a transponder. To me that implies that they have a way of telling the difference.

2 - No - it is not right. It should be less. Write your congressman.

Or.....you could get an Ipass which works in EZpass areas. I have zero idea as to the fees. I just know it's the same as my car. I have 2 transponders and 4 vehicles, including my bike, registered.

If the city is recording the transactions and research vehicles, I realize it's a lot, then would the city cite you for fraud and put up a bench warrant for you? There are a lot of things that are lopsided when it comes to motorcyclist. Try contacting your State or local ABATE org. see if they will get involved.

It's 20 cents. Is it really worth getting the state and ABATE involved? Are people really that cheap these days?

All I gotta say is WOW

I have used NJ ez pass in different vehicles and never had a problem. I have one I take from the bike to another vehicle. Do it all the time. They really don't care as long as the toll's paid.

It's not the really 20 cents, apparently the commuter pass is the better deal....I really want to know if they would know the difference. some local people say they use their car pass, but there are cameras at each toll booth. I'm not sure if that's for people who just blow through, or if a picture is captured each time you go through.

If it was up to me, since I pay an annual fee on top of the tolls for the commuter pass, it should be able to be used on whatever vehicle it's in/on....but it's not up to me....

license plate recognition is part of the system. so if the tag id shows with a plate that isnt registered it should raise a flag in the system.

the rule is
You may only use the Tag on a vehicle class that corresponds to the class of Tag provided to you by E-ZPass.

however i cant find any information on how classes are defined.

the motorcycle pass has a big M on it, and I would have to get a new cycle one, and register it to my account.

I have a PA EZPass for my bike and on the few rare occasions I've needed to pay a toll in my car I've used the transponder. I haven't had an issue.

The SF Bay Area uses Fastrak system to cross toll briges and toll roads. And the state has been losing millions to absconders who fail to put plates on their vehicles. Sport bike riders tuck their plates under the rear fender so cameras cant read or see them. How does NY deal with this problem? story here..
