The only thing a mirror is good for is to see if a cop is chasing you! Well, not quite true. I'll also use the mirrors when stopped to make sure someone doesn't run me down. If you're not turning your head all the way and looking when changing lanes, odds are that you wouldn't be around long enough to be posting in this thread! JMHO!
I never rely on my mirrors for lane changes, I use the mirrors to see what is behind me while moving forward. When changing lanes I always look - by turning my head.
This is why/how some of us have successfully ridden for years.
I use mirrors and look over my shoulder when changing lanes, merging etc both driving and riding. You never know when a crotch rocket is gonna surprise you!
To the whoever that admonished me for using my turn signal to move within my lane...I do it as a courtesy to other bikers that might have snuck up on me, I sure don't want to cut him off...
And here in old folks heaven I have stock turn signals and wish they were bigger...unbelievable how the blue hairs and cotton tops ignore road rules and courtesies...and they're all in a hurry...thankfully the snow birds will be leaving in a couple of months and the roads will once again be somewhat safer...
