Hmmm, soooo, I wouldn't have to trailer all that far to find clear roads? Awful tempting.

Too much salt around for me even if the roads are a little clear. I've waited this long, a few weeks longer makes little difference now.

Like I said, if salt bothers you try S100 Corrosion Protectant. It will protect your vulnerable parts. Been using it for many years. Last Saturday I had 2 chapter members come up to me and tell me how wonderful the stuff was. I said I've been preaching about this stuff for years, why did it take you so long to try it? They said it sounded too good, but really wanted to ride so they gave it a shot. I now have 2 more converts. I think since I started my winter rides I've got at least 30 people to try riding in the winter and have continued to do so. I agree if you don't have the right gear it won't be enjoyable.

If you still don't want to try the S100, it's not the salt that keeps you from riding - it's the cold. In that case get heated gear. There really isn't any excuse for not riding in the winter except for icy roads - in which case even I won't ride. The only other excuse is not having the $$$ for the heated gear, but I guarantee you will enjoy not having to wait 4 to 6 months to ride each year and you'll have the gear for many years.
The worse part is having to listen to all the bitching about having to wait so long to be able to ride again. I just smile and ride away.

If your ride is set up for the cold and you have the right gear, I say ride all year.

As it is with 95% of riders.

I would gladly take 55* to 65* any day over 85* and up.

I don't know. Never tried it. With temps around 28*/35*, I'm not taking a chance. Usually the night before if the temps are going to be that low, I'll slip my used waterbed heater under the engine just to help raise the temp just a little - anything to help the poor H-D starter.

I posted this in some of my other oil threads = Amsoil 10/40 MOTORCYCLE oil in the winter. We ride every Sunday - weather permitting - for brunch. Normally an hour ride each way.

Anything to get off the couch.
