COPD and exercise
well i started working out jan 2013, also started yoga. did it for a 2 week motorcycle trip i was planning and wanted to be in better shape for it as it was a different type of trip.
it has made a big difference in riding. didn't realize how much a difference it would make.
can give examples if interested, but thats a different post.
so here is my problem.
because of my COPD and emphazema it seems that my resporatory gives out before my muscles.
and so it seems like i just can't push myself as much as i would like
i keep attempting to work on the cardio, but man it gets hard
i am not on tanks but am on 3 different inhalers.
so i am wondering if anyone else has a similar problem and how they got past it
What i have found that helps me some when trying to workout(on the days i feel i can) I use my Ventolin inhaler about 30 mins prior to the workout/ride. While it doesnt really help the long term it does help me get in a workout/ride.
Also the best and easiest way i have found to do cardio is a recumbent bike or walking. Trying to really push it always leaves me in a bad way. I even dread the next PFT i have to do as i know when its done i will need help just getting out of hospital.
most days no problem, but there are some things that really get to me
almost feel like i am in a plastic bag
i have an inhaler to use before physical activity which i use and it does help
but still just going up like 2 flights of stairs and i have trouble catching my breath
i am continually trying to push it but some days it just feels that i can't get the oxygen i need to do a really good work out
thanks for you input
