On my GPS I can change the route settings to avoid highways, tolls booths, etc. That works good for staying off the highways for me.

I've tried TyretoRide and when it worked it was good. BUT after a recent upgrade my virus protection blocks it for trojan virus'. It's highly possible it's just adware/malware addon and of course they say the program is clean, but I no longer trust it.

Microsoft Trips and Streets is what I use now to plan routes and transfer to my Garmin GPS. I actually used to use this before GPS units got popular. It came with a small GPS plug in for your laptop to use it in the car. Now they have both versions and I can still use all those old files. Has worked flawlessly every time and well worth the money.

Right now I have paper maps but I'm looking for A GPS phone app that I can stream via bluetooth to my Scala for when I go to Tennessee this summer.

I'm trying to get all my gadgets ironed out now so I can practice with them locally before the big trip.

I might try some of these ideas but will probably get one of those tank pockets and put my Garmin in it. However, I am currently in such a winter funk I can't even think straight. As soon as we thaw out I'm hittin the road with no p'ticler place to go....

Thanks
For day trips, get a map, (spring for the laminated one!) and follow the squiggly lines. If you're just wandering around for the day, why bother with a GPS?
