Consumer Reports on Motorcycle Reliability
With some products, it's a big deal (alarm clock, furnace, lawn mower, truck, guns, tools, sports equipment). If it's not reliable, I don't want it because it will just **** me off, or worse.
With others, it's more about the overall fun factor than reliability worries (drums, guitar, sport bike, race bike). If it's a blast, or runs like a scalded cat, I'll deal with some unreliability.
That said, it's not always either/or for me. For instance, I would leave tomorrow for the west coast and back on my Harley knowing full well that it might have some problems along the way. But that's part of the whole riding experience for me... It started when I was riding unreliable used stuff as a kid...and a Norton later in life...fixing it on the side of the trail or road was always just part of riding. I've met some great people on the side of the road... I can't explain it...
