Anyone remember when "baggers" were called garbage barges or garbage wagons? Old man's rides. The polite term was "dresser".
Yup. When I started riding a bagger they were dressers. They were NOT popular. I took almost as much $hit as when I was riding rice. Not so much the "garbage wagon" more of the "barge", "only old men and shriners ride dressers" "ya borrowing dad's bike while you make up your mind between a lowrider and a supergilde" kind of stuff.
They were called "dressers" when I was younger, not as a derogatory term just simply referring to them being fully dressed. That was is the 1960's and the only term I've ever used.

I can't bring myself to call them baggers. I still want to call them dressers but since that's an outdated term, I call them their technical name. But yeah, in the club is where I first heard the term "garbage wagon". And when we saw one, we'd holler, "PARTS!"
'Garbage Wagons' or 'Garbage Scows' were different than your everyday 'dresser' or 'bagger'...
From what I remember, (you've prolly seen pics of them somewhere), the garbage wagons had tons of lights, and miscellaneous objects on them. Mirrors, glass beads, lights of all kinds, tassels hanging from many chrome railings, (I mean LOTS OF TASSELS on many railings), luggage racks everywhere, fender flaps, flags, and all sorts of small items you'd think only belong in a thrift store that hung all over the bike as if they were christmas tree ornaments. They were a sight, but the owners were just as proud of them as you guys want to be of your 'show bikes'...
And the 'clean' ones were 'baggers'...

Full Dresser or Dresser is what I knew them as, and when you liked them. Garbage wagon if you didn't like them. I just started calling them baggers recently.
Yup, Dressers or Full Dressed 70s thru 80s. It seems the term Bagger started being tossed around in the late 90s. I never heard Garbage Wagon or Wagon and I am from the SF Bay Area (Sonny Barger's territory as someone said). Now live in Phoenix and Bagger is the only term I ever use or hear, at least from others that ride.
