If you feel you have had a bad experience with a dealer, by all means please post it. There was a thread a month or so ago about a HD Dealership out West that went on for pages and pages about an organized effort to bash and even hurt the business of that particular dealer.

Except for an occasional t-shirt, hat, or some minor accessory I have very little dealing with Harley Davidson. I buy my motorcycles used and in 25 years have never allowed HD to work on any of my bikes.

Therefore if my motorcycle broke down away from home, my immediate thought would be to call my insurance company, mainly because I don't deal with dealerships. I would call my insurance company, and while waiting on them, find me a local independent shop.

As far as Jory calling the Dealership first instead of calling his insurance company that may not have been the BEST decision, but to blindly (which most of you are doing) defend this HD Dealership or HD Dealerships in general would be comical, if not so ridiculous.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again. Each person has his own opinion and experiences but in my experiences I have never been exposed to anything so negative as are the HD Dealerships in general. For every 10 I go in 9 are absolutely horrible in customer service. The people that populate the average HD Dealerships are some of the most unhelpful, arrogant, pompous individuals I have ever met in my life. The best thing you can do if you own a motorcycle with a HD, S&S, or similar engine is find you a damn good indendent shop and establish a good relationship with the people that work there.

I do buy genuine HD parts, but I buy them through Surdyke. Great place, great dealership, great website, and their parts, accessories, and appearal are always 20% off.

I'm not a fan of HOG, I dont need it, but this might be something to think about:

H.O.G.
Ž ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

H.O.G. COVERS THE BASICS WITH THE STANDARD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE pa ckage – ONE
tow PER YEAR WITH A MAXIMUM of $100. This coverage is AUTOMATICALLY IN PLACE
FOR WHEN YOU NEED IT the MOST. Carry your H.O.G. membership card with you, and
should you be stranded at the side of the road, just call the toll-free number
on the back to arrange for a tow.
HIGHER-LEVEL COVERAGE PACKAGES ARE AVAILABLE AT ADDITIONAL COST. If you’re on the
road a lot, your best value offering the most coverage is the Ultra Plus Package.
STANDARD PACKAGE
(INCLUDED with full and full life membership at no extra charge)
Active full and full life H.O.G. members may use the program

once per year, with
a maximum of $100 coverage

for that occurrence. In addition, Road America offers
telephone support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (including various communication
options for the hearing-impaired).
Here’s how it works: If you (an active full or full life H.O.G. member) are stranded
due to a covered problem, contact Road America to arrange for a tow to the nearest
authorized Harley-Davidson dealership (NOTE: H-D dealerships are not open 24/7).
The toll-free number is on the back of your H.O.G. membership card.

Road America will
send an authorized service provider for assistance. There is no out-of-pocket expense
to H.O.G. members for covered services received up to $100. Members simply sign
the invoice from the provider to verify that service was received.

And there are more comprehensive packages there and at other insurance plans too. Be prepared.

Holy Crap I spent 9 years with SWIFT Trucking went through Big Spring 2 times. On Hwy 89 as I recall. I didnt even see a gas station much less a Harley Dealer. Sorry to hear that story and yes HOG membership takes care of things like that if they happen.

I guess you're gonna be really pissed when I tell you that the dealer I bought my bike from sent a tow truck to my house (30 miles away) to pick up my bike with a nail in the rear tire. They were even going to pay the tow bill until the ESP people said they'd take care of that on top of the new free tire. I wasn't stranded, and it wasn't any kind of emergency. Both the bike and I were safe and sound at home.

Some of us got it, some of us don't.

Both dealers near me offer pickup service to my home for maintenance, breakdowns, or service calls, but they charge a fee over 50 miles (+/-). I don't use their services, but it's nice they offer I guess...certainly not required of them.

This is the old man that called for assistance from the Big Spring Dealer. By the way,
Big Spring isn't 450 miles from the State line. And no, I wasn't looking for free gratis.
Just needed some assistance to get the bike to their shop. All well now. (They absolutely did not assist me in any way). Got a tow from Brownfield Texas to Big Spring, and my son, Jory434 had gone on to San Angelo and brought a trailer back to
Big Spring. Loaded up and got her home. Hauled the beast to Caliente Harley Davidson
in San Antonio last week of March. They found "wrong head gaskets" among other "non
HD" parts in tear down. Long story short-- Caliente IS the best of all I've used over the
years, and definitely have top notch mechanics and techs. Can't say enough about these
guys. Thanks Joe, Josh, and the rest of your crew for all the help!!! PS- old Black Bitch
is cranking nearly 103 HP with 109+ ft lbs torque on their Dyno. Catch me later, Lonestar103

Hey Jakenok, Thanks for the input, am a HOG member, but chose the route we did as
phone service was really limited. AND I had made my mind up NOT to go to the nearest
dealer, (in Big Spring), so as I stated in another post, all went well. Just disappointed
in the BS dealership for not offering ANY assistance when called. Overall, it was one of
the best trips I've ever been on. Saw three states and the travel with Jory434, his girl,
and my wife was awesome. Ride safe my man, catch me later. Lonestar103
