You will be fine. Sturgis is a blast and you will have fun, the Black hills are beautiful to ride thru, but the riding here in Colorado is way better(I'm from just north of Sturgis)! You will have to get off into the mountains to enjoy it though, and I would recommend doing it on the way up as you will be too tired after Sturgis!

We've done Death Valley to Pikes Peak. One bike a carb, one injected. Never changed a thing on either. Stop reading the internet and your worries will disappear.

perfect timing on this thread!
I am sitting here looking at the map of Colorado!
Wanting to take some vacation in a month or so and was thinking about riding up to Pikes Peak!
I figured the new tech computerized injector gee whiz gadget engines would be ok....

Do not worry about the bike. Do worry about you. Take lots of layers so you will be ready for the weather/temp changes.

We rode to Ft. Davis in October. It supposed to be nearly a mile high and I didn't notice any change in his my bike ran while we were there.

I used to live in the Denver area. I was riding a GSX with 4 carbs that had been synced in Oklahoma.

Up to 11,000 feet the bike handled it. Beyond that, performance dropped off noticeably.
It would cough, fart and struggle, but kept running.

On a carbed bike, up to timber line, you are good.

On a modern EFI with their electronic brains you shouldn't have worries at all.
