I know most people change the pipes as soon as they get the bike, but who else besides me has kept their stock exhaust on? I have had 3 other Harleys and changed the exhaust on all of them, I actually had 4 different sets of pipes for the Super Glide. I thought when I got the Electra Glide I would want a louder pipe, but after riding it for nearly 6 months Ive grown to like the quieter pipes. Its nice to be going down the road at 60 or 70 mph and be able to talk to my wife without yelling. I can hear the tunes clear as a bell too. I think I will keep it stock.
New 05 Electra Glide Classic 9/04..........still has the original exhaust. I've thought about changing pipes quite a bit, but I also kinda like the quieter ride on a bike like this. I may try true duals just to cut down the right side heat thing but otherwise think it'll stay this way.
I've spotted a few HD's with stock pipes, The ones I've seen were really kept up looking nice and when I got close I realized they must have kept the stock pipe set up. Nothing wrong with that, it just takes you for a minute when you realize the bike is quiet, you still google eye the bike, there is just no noise.
Every Harley I've had has had loud pipes. On my new Ultra I decided to take a chance on the new Screamin Eagle street legal pipes. Just a little louder than stock with a nice tone. I still haven't decided if I'll keep them on it yet, because I really like the sound of louder pipes, but I must say I'm kind of enjoying this quieter mellow tone. I must be getting old.
I hear ya,,, but,,,guys will be guys,, and I had to keep up with the forum Joneses'
so I compromised and ordered the supertrapp SE's. about 2 db over stock,
and about 7-9 increase on HP and Trq.#'s
besides,,, loud pipes are getting to much attention from local law!
I know this for fact!,,,sasss a frass asass a frigg a frass asa ssasss

In my youth I thought loud pipes were kool!I notice afew comments above about "must be getting old". I'm sure that plays a large part in it. Now that I'm an old fart I enjoy the peace and tranquility that comes with a "gentle" rumble of the pipes. I also pride myself in not further damaging the image of motorcyclist by angering people with loud, intrusive, unwanted sounds.
Tomorrow I pick up my Fat Boy. I'm weighing out my options. It's about $400 to do the Screamin Eagle slipons. How much is it to redo the exhust? Should I do nothing?
