Man,I sure hope this guy pays that loan off. He used the bike for collateral and unless he pays that note off it won't be your bike no matter if he signed off on the tittle or not, it belongs to the bank, period.I know of no way around saying this except that unless that note gets paid by him or you it will never be yours and you won,t be getting it (legally)registered. You should have gone to the bank with him, better yet you should have got your bank involved to confirm pay off. I sure hope this guy is an upstanding person for your sake, I'm not trying to make you nervous, but I'll be praying for you.Good luck!

I was with him when he paid it off, I said that earlier.... I was standing there when the bank said 10-14 days for the waiver.
. The alternative is to see if the previous owner would let you use their plate for a day.
In IL and a lot of other states that's a felony. Not a good idea.

You were lucky. What you did wasn't legal in IL. Legally you are not allowed to drive a vehicle home or anywhere else without plates.
You need a temp tag from the DMV. Ride it with out plates and you are just asking for trouble. The cops are under no obligation to be "understanding".
You only get temp tags in Va if you buy from a dealer. I bought my bike privately and paid the previous owners lien holder on March 19th and am waiting for them to send me the title. I can't register it until I have the title in hand.
huh....In MO, you can't get tags until you have an inspection..... Temp or permanent.
Buying from a dealer, they do it right there and give you temp tags, but from an individual, I'm on my own I guess? Maybe I ought to trailer it?
I jacked that up a bit, I was thinking of a vehicle that you currently owned, my bust. In this case, in NC you can get a temp reg from DMV good for 3 business days I believe in order to get the inspection completed. You bring proof of a passing vehicle back to DMV pay up and get the tag, sorry for any confusion. Just don't ride without any docs from DMV or you may regret it.
