7even, Congrats on the ride, and the Mrs. being happy.
I was a "Honda guy" all my life (47 now) with brief encounters with a Yamaha and a Suzuki. Until last year, I was off bikes for 19 years. Wife and I had been talking about getting another one for a few years, but just never really got that bug to stick. That is...until I rode my buddies Harley. That did it, and now we have an Electra Glide Classic.
Guess what I'm saying is...it took a Harley to do it, and I didn't know it until I did. Glad you understand now.
Exactly, "it took a Harley to do it, and I didn't know it until I did". I truly do get it now. Thanks for the welcome!
I too am a new 2014 Ultra Classic owner. Picked it up a week ago. I started riding again 4 years ago and have purchased and sold a Vulcan, Yamaha Road Star, Honda VTX in that order. I could never see the value in an HD although I never looked. On a snowy Colorado Saturday I was bored and went to several bike dealers. Once I sat on the HD I knew I was interested. Once I test rode the SGS and the UC I was hooked. My wife asked me what I was I was going to buy for this bike and my response was nothing. Like I told the salesman it does vibrate a lot more at stops. But it's worth it. I think I found my ride.
Wow. Okay. Me? '84 CX500 waaaaaay back when. '78 Kawa KZ 900. V-Star, VTX 1800C, Goldwing... Goldwing 1500... Goldwing GL1800... And now, the one that the others were getting me ready for. I absolutely get what you mean, "But it's worth it. I think I found my ride...". Totally.
Welcome to the Harley world 7even! Loved reading your post and after having had my 1st Harley for 2.5 years I've kinda taken it for granted. Reading how excited you are reminds me of how I felt when I first purchased mine after coming from a Honda Shadow. World of difference that you can't explain to people. Glad you're here. I've found most of the Harley crowd are a great bunch of people.
Thanks for the welcome!! "World of difference that you can't explain to people" and before I road, and now own, I didn't get it either. And you're so right about the people. Welcomed into a family...
Another of the amazing things about HD is the camaraderie you encounter as a Harley owner. When I came to the "dark side" in the late nineties I was blown away by the dealer network and the HOG side of the experience.
Took some HOG sponsored rides around the country and met life long friends along the way.
Oh, and the machines are not half bad either...
Thanks for the welcome and I'm looking forward to it all! And yeah, I think the machines are alright...
Congrats on your new ride. I too didn't understand why anyone would ride a Harley, too heavy, slow, unreliable and expensive. Now I wish I had tried one sooner, absolutely love my Road King. Heavy-not really, slow-not with a stage 4 kit, unreliable-no, expensive-ABSOLUTELY but that is my fault damned P & A catalogue and online shopping. Oh and yes I did get the tattoo too.
Looking forward to my tat and truth be told, I never should have touched the catalog... it's so very tempting! Sooooo much to choose from!!! Thanks for the welcome!

Well, either she has come to her senses, or you "manned up"!
Anyway; Good luck with the new sled & ride safe.
Thanks for the welcome! I manned up, she came to her senses, or she came to her sense and I manned up... LOL!! Either way, the ride is supreme! Thanks for the welcome!
A Jersey!!!....Buckle up Cowboy and standby for her buying a whole Harley wardrobe.
Congratulations.
I want to send a pic of what she's already purchased, and this is from a non-biker chick... go figure! But I love every thread that she's gotten! Here we go!!!
