Never had one but a friend had one in the mid 60s and he loved it. It was a neat bike for the times. I think the engine was made in Austria. They are worth more now as collectors than they were then.

Correction on engine. Yes it is Italian.

The Aermacchi's (Harley's small bike line) were made in Italy.
In the early 60's Harley purchased the Aermacchi line, and started
importing the bikes to the USA.
Sometimes know as the "poor man's sportster"
What exactly did you want to know?

Here's a pic of my 1967 250H model, with the very rare European tank.
I believe there were approx 2000 of this model imported in 67

Here's my 1967 SS250 almost completed.

Before pic

Here is my 1972 Shortster, one year only minibike. 65CC, they made the X90CC model for a couple of years after
this, but the true Shortster was only made in 1972, approx 2000 of these bikes were imported.

I have a rolling chassis 68ss with primary still on it.

And I have a 73 sx (the whole Motor and primary).
is it possible to take the parts I need off the 73? I want to keep it as original as possible

The Sprint was manufactured in Italy by Benelli and I believe the sx 250 was manufactured by the (also Italian) Aermacci Aircraft company of which HD had 50% ownership.

If that pic is what you referring to, that's NO sprint, it's a sportster...
I'm assuming that you posted the wrong pic?

The sprints are very year specific regarding parts, and most years parts do not fit other years, (with some exceptions)
There is a Yahoo Aermacchi group, there are a lot of old timers on there with
a wealth of knowledge.

I had a '78 SX 250, which is basically the same as the 73. They didn't change much over the years except cosmetically. Thing was a total pooch and really a POS in general. Would get smoked by Japanese 80cc MX bikes in a drag. Topped out at about 55-60 on the street.

The cylinder has no liner at all, basically the cast pistons slides up and down in the cast cylinder. I blew a piston once. The oil injection system's weren't the greatest either.

Many of the parts you'd find on bigger HDs like the tail light, headlight nacell was straight off a 70s Sportster IIRC.

You are right. It was the little minis that were made by Benelli.
