When I was looking for a Harley 2 years ago a guy in town let me see his son's bike. Its a 1998 1200 Sportster, black, dual plugs per cyl, forward controls.. and only has 1,440 miles original! His son bought in while in Germany in the Army on the GI Harley buying program of some sort. The son drove it in Germany for 3 days then shipped it home, where its been ever since. It is for sale.. but the guy wants $7,500 for it. Ive told him multiple times it wasnt worth that kind of money but he is stubborn. I gave up trying to buy it for less and got my 2000 Dyna instead. Yesterday I advertised the Sportster on Craigslist for $7500 and we'll see. But if he would just drop the price some, I would buy it!! So my question here is... how much do you think this bike is really worth? Dealer wont say.
Harley only...although you have to be dedicated considering
the run around some of the dealers put you through. I have
owned a few rice rockets over the years, but the Harley is
the best....
For me I find the Harleys to be the most comfortable fit. I looked at manyother brandsbefore deciding on my bike. My next bike will most likely be a Harley...I'd like to have a Road Glide too but can't convince hubby I need 2 bikes
Now I'm gonna get flamed...but...
Hubby has been talking about his touring bike again. He wants to ride a Ultra and a Goldwing. It would not surprise me at all if he goes for the Goldwing. After riding the VTX at 1800ccit's just not the same ridewithout spending alot of extra $$ to bring theUltra Classic to the same place. Hewasdisappointed with thepower of o6Road King...and he does not think that a Screaming Eagle is worthpaying $40k + for when he can get it for almost $20K less in a Honda. I don't think the 07 stock bike would change his mind much from last year.
He is not about status but rather the value and practicality since this is not his main mode of transportation.
The only thing that bothers me about his not buying Harley is that sometimes due to the seperation of Metric folks and Harley folks we do not get to participate it somethings.
He does admit comparing what is available for his bike vs. mine Harley has better support and options. Then again there is a big difference between a Goldwing and a VTX when it comes to extras in the Honda line.
I won't buy a new one. My last new one is my 03 Train. If I get another bike it will be a Carb'd Evo.
Or I'll get a Shovel with really simple electrics on it. EFI might be great, but I prefer the simplicity of a S&S Super.
There are other makes? Just kiddin, when I bought my street glide I looked around
but didn't find anythingI liked, I had to know what else was available.

If hubby hasn't figured it out by now, he never will. Harley isn't about "status".. It's about heart and soul. Something you don't get from a plastic wrapped recycled beer can.
The 07 Ultra will have a little extra power, but it doesn't come on like a jap bike (as Harley riders know). Maybe an ultra, and speed about $1500 on the 103 upgrade with cams. That isn't the way I'd build it.. I'd go to Head-Quarters and make it kick butt... but it might give him what he wants.
Good luck.

I like Harleys (probably more than any other brand) andI sell them, butI also sell Metric's, so yeah I'd shop around. WhenI sit on my RK I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling that some of you folks get, it's a bike,I love to ride, been doing it for 30 yrs, butI could easily do it on something else. I'd consider the Yamaha Royal Star Deluxe, Suzuki M109, a couple of Triumph's and the new 2008 Indian Chief.
