Hey everyone, finally got a nice day today to ride so I changed all the fluids in the bike and we headed out. After about 100 miles I noticed that when I closed the throttle I would get this whining noise coming from the left side of the bike, if I pulled the clutch in the noise would stop instantly, or if I didn’t pull the clutch in it would stop after about 5 seconds in each gear while I down shifted. When I got home I double checked all levels of my fluids and everything seemed fine, then I took it out by myself and there was no noise at all when I closed the throttle, so I went back picked the wife up and sure enough the noise was back, so it seems like it only happens when ridding 2 up (Oh yeah she didn’t appreciate the comment that its her weight that was causing the problem, she weighs about 130lbs). I did get some new metzler tires installed about two weeks ago, and I changed the fluids today, other then that I have changed nothing else. Any ideas? I cant see anything rubbing and I cant pin point the noise exactly because its pretty tough when ridding. Thanks for any input that you may have!
I get a whining noise when I have it in a turn, and usually when I have the throttle rolled off. My noise is tire noise which I normally can't hear if I have much throttle rolled in, and is generated by the less used side treads.
I did check the tire pressure this morning, they were around 35 if i remember right. I will try that tomorrow, maybe try running them around 40 or 45, although Im not sure about the recomended pressure for the metzler tires. I will keep you posted. Thanks
I would suspect the tension on the rear belt as being a bit tight.
I was wondering that as well, I was having my wife sit on the bike and I noticed as she sat on it the tension on the belt got tighter. Does one need any tools to adjust the rear belt? If I remember corectly the service manual states you need some tensioner of some sort, is there a write up on the forum on how to adjust the tension on the rear belt?
I have a metzler me880 front tire when i'm decelerating or braking hard my front tire makes noise too
FXDXsteve, I did notice that on my new 880's as well, but the noise I'm refering to is very loud and I dont think it is just tire noise. But I could be completly wrong since I dont know a thing about this darn bike.
I think the guys nailed it with the belt tension. Probably just enough for the belt to place additional drag on the tranny causing the whine. You don't need any special tools & your owners manual should cover adjustment very well..... T
