One less reason to deal with H-D anymore, I guess.

Frankly, I'd rather have Harley rebuild my motor than anyone I know around here. There isn't a shop around here I'd trust with the job, and I can't do it myself.
It does say "all parts are new for the same VIN number - no parts are reused". My take is that you are still turning in the old engine and getting a totally new one with the same VIN.

My old eyes couldn't make out much of that letter, so I didn't catch that.

Considering that my remanufactured engine seemed to contain mostly new parts, I'm not surprised they went this route. I suspect they may no longer have trained personnel who can sort worn and serviceable parts from "worn out", or it's no longer cost effective to do so. Then too, add in the cost of stripping and recoating powder coated parts, and they may have figured there was not a lot of margin for profit anymore.

Also, despite inspection, there is always the risk that something defective gets reused. My first remanufactured motor failed and had to be rebuilt again under warranty.

I'll wait and see how this pans out. According the latest used oil analysis, my motor is doing just fine and showing almost no wear at 98,000 miles.

From a cost/ labor standpoint with racks full of new parts sitting there it's a no brainer to toss everything engrave the new cases with the old numbers and ship it. The twinkie engine is not costing the factory anywhere near what the older rebuildable early motors were, they've cut it to the bone it's why they are so throw away now.
