How about a ride up the Mississippi to the head waters in Lake Itasca park, MN? You can actually jump over the Mississippi without getting your feet wet.
Take a ride up along the Mississippi River and on to to Duluth. If you have a few extra hours run the north shore from Duluth on 61 up to Split Rock and Gooseberry Falls. From Duluth head south into Wisconsin on 53 a few miles to 13 and run that along the south shore of Lake Superior over to Cornucopia and Ashland. HWY 13, is closed between Cornucopia and But the detour is a nice ride down to Washburn. From Washburn ride north on 13 to Bayfield. From Ashland go west on US 2 south on 63 all the way back to the Mississippi. Just some suggestions, Hope you have a good ride.
I'd say head up to Duluth and ride along the south shore of Lake Superior to Whitefish Point, drop down to St.Ignace and ride US 2 back west along the north shore of Lake Michigan. OR, cross Big Mac to the Lower Peninsula and ride the Lake Michigan shoreline down to Ludington or Muskegon and take a ferry across to Wisconsin. There's lots of good stuff to stop and see along the way.
You can cross into Illinois and ride Great River Road down going south. Be sure to check out Poopy's in Savannah IL and if you get far enough south I've heard that Fast Eddies in Alton IL is a great place to eat.
Whatever you decide to do take pics to share with us!

Happy riding and stay safe.
We ride to Poopy's nearly every weekend. It is a fun place but only about 50 miles away.(It's north of us)
Never heard of Fast Eddies but maybe a possibility if we decide to go the St Louis area which is on our list of "maybes"
I'm originally from eastern Iowa. Now live in Des Moines. You could ride up to Milwaukee, check out the Harley museum, then ride around Wisconsin, go up to Duluth, etc. And as someone else said, Itasca State park in MN is pretty cool, so that could be a good stop as well.
