Hubby and I have vacation from July 4-9. We live in eastern Iowa. We are looking for a little trip to take the bikes for a few days. Hubby has been riding for years but I am a bit of a rookie, just started about a year ago and winter is not biker friendly here. The farthest we have traveled in a day so far was 230 miles. Open to all suggestions.
So far our farthest ride was 230 mile day. Could have went more but that is just where our day took us. 150-200 miles is a pretty typical Sunday for us, that just riding relatively close to home and within time frame for lunch and get back home to let the dogs out.
Drop south about 500 to NW Arkansas. Great riding throughout the Ozarks.
That is on our "maybe" list. Hubby's brother and wife live in Dallas so they want to meet us there but due to conflicting schedules won't be this summer. We could go there alone though.
What about Mackinac Island? That's a 1-1/2 days up there going over the top of Lake Michigan and same coming home. Gives you 2+ days to kick back, easy riding the area, take a run up to the Soo Locks, take the ferry to Mackinac Island.
If you feel real adventurous cross the Mackinac Bridge. Make sure you're really up for that tho. A lot of people can't handle it particularly on 2 wheels.

I remember crossing the Mackinac Bridge in a car as a child. For someone that's afraid of heights.....NO WAY!!!! Not on a bike!!!!!

That's kind of what I was thinking too...up towards Duluth to get up by the big water, and then pick a road east along Superior, or maybe drop down towards Escanaba and Lake Michigan. I love riding the U.P., it's avoided the growth of so many other parts of the country. Neat roads and peaceful country.
