I would agree that you are over thinking the clutch. I will add to remember to keep your head up and looking down the road. This will greatly improve your take off and slowing down. Look at you feet and you'll stumble. If you have skied or snowboarded you know not to look at your skis/snowboard, when ice skating it's the same. Riding a bicycle you don't look at the ground, you look up. This is all the same when riding a motorcycle.

Keep your head up, you'll be amazed how simple and effective it is at improving balance.

You really won't learn how to ride and ride properly until the mechanics of riding become second nature and instinctive. I suggest to take an 1/2 hour a day at first to practice your slow riding maneuvers in an empty lot. Then just ride around the neighborhood for a while.

If you're thinking about the mechanics of riding (shifting, clutch, braking...) you're spending less time looking out for your environment and situational awareness. We've all been there.

practice-practice-practice

Good luck.

Yes it's natural. Experience gives confidence. Before long you'll need to step back and realize you're being overconfident.

Sorry... I forgot that not everyone lives in the hell-hole that is the Dallas-Ft Worth "Area of Endless Construction".
Seriously - there is not ONE highway in this area that doesnt have major construction going on right now somewhere on its expanse.

With the construction you get stresses like:
Lane shifts ("what the hell?!? This road was straight yesterday!!")
Construction vehicles pulling out in front of you at 5mph when you are doing 50.
People not realizing that the exit has been moved and quite literally turning right right in front of you. (when the exit is on the right... sometimes the exits are on the left - you know, just for fun)
People missing their exit and STOPPING in the middle of the highway so they can make a 90* turn. (It happened yesterday - I got to sit in the traffic)
