Looking forward to following the updates with this one, and as others have said, that was an awesome $1 purchase.
IIRC, around a year ago, there was a member here that bought a similar condition bike (paid more for it though). He striped it down and thoroughly detailed the bike as he reassembled it - made a HUGE difference IMO. Any plans to do so with this one?

Ideally, yes, but like anything else, it comes down to time and money. Right now I just wanted to make sure that it runs. Now that I know it does, I may be a little more aggressive with restoring it. I don't know if I'm brave enough to completely pull the engine, but I would like to clean up the frame regardless.
My apologies if this was mentioned before, I did read the whole thread but after anything this long I might have just missed it.
I have had a lot of experience with wiring harnesses in older vehicles (both 2 and 4 wheeled). After 20ish years (depending on climate, where stored, yadda yadda) they get really dangerous to continue using. Given how inexpensive a harness for this thing would be I would swap the old one out for a new one, especially if you decide to later go down to a bare frame and detail everything out. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous rides over the years burnt to a crisp because something in the wiring simply quit. Take it for what it's worth, maybe it spent it's life in Nevada and it's not needed.
Just a question
Why are people so enamored with the S&S carburetor? I found in the 80's and 90's people had nothing but problems with tuning them properly.
I ran SU's on ironheads and shuvs

Even if you have the whole carb... I don't really feel like dropping $600 on a new s&s carb right now. I am willing to pay top dollar menu for your help.

I completely agree. I had to repair a few of the wires, the harness is pretty solid. The only wires that need repair will be from the ignition timing.

They just seem to be the standard upgrade. I ended up making my own spring and now the choke works no problem. I did put a k&n filter on it. But I am still up $600 or so.
