Kazoo, I road through Battle Creek last month and couldn't believe those roads. We came around a curve next to the airport and found tar snake city. Nearly 90* out that day and you could feel her moving on the tar snakes.
Actually it happened just before that on the left hander with merging traffic from the right. Helmer road at the airport is scarey slippery with tar snakes. I ride that way every day but avoid that road if possible.
Wow! How did that tire even hold air? That sucks man!
Looks like its a spoked rim so it would have a tube.
I need to go check my front rim now. I hit one of those kind of hard yesterday on my way home from work on I55. My ride felt fine coming in today, and don't think I hit it hard enough to do what yours did, but seeing that pic makes me want to check anyway.
I can sympathize with you kzoo! I live near Traverse City and there are some roads up here that are so full of potholes that it's practically impossible to miss them all. If you tried, you'd probably get pulled over for suspicion of DUI. I try to avoid those roads as much as possible. Problem is that they'll get the potholes fixed just in time for the snow to start flying again so the potholes can come out again next spring... Glad you stayed upright!
