The road king looked HUGE at the dealership compared to the softails and dynas but I wonder does it handle just as well? Like around town without looking like a grandpa haha

Look for a 2007 - 2010 wideglide with 20 or 25 thousand Miles on it.

I'm a fairly young guy, just turned 30. Being young and not ready for grandpa bike I'd say definitely check the dynas out. Big twin engine and good looks on the street. I have a 2002 wide glide I gave 6 grand for and love it. Good around town bike that's capable of a easy 400 mile day. Best bang for the buck would be a super glide or street bob In my opinion. New wide glide costs more but if you got the change check it out too. I like the older wide glides myself with the mini apes

I'd buy used though. Save a lot of money and if it doesn't tickle your fancy you can sell it without taking a big loss

I think it's a matter of perspective. If I were to get a BT it would be a Dyna. I live in Philly and urban stop-and-go traffic is just a part of daily life. A touring bike is not best suited for that kind of riding. If my Sporty can be setup for long travel, I have little doubt a Dyna (Low Rider) would be even that much better. I know the Dyna is better in urban riding than the RK is.

Now if you live in a rural area and/or most of your time is spent on the slab or open roads, the RK touring bike would be better suited.

Yes, are there those that use a touring bike for daily riding? I'm sure there are. But it's hardly the best choice. Are there those that tour on their Dynas? Plenty. Yet if someone were to do a ton of touring (say 25k miles a year) the Dyna may not be the best choice either.

The MoCo makes a ton of bikes. The OP should ride as many as possible before choosing. He'll know which one is for him. The bike will tell him.

i'm a fan of the fatboys (obviously). bike is a money pit, so having a good starting point is a good idea. do you want a windshield or bags? a bare bones cruiser? one thing you'll want to do when you get to the dealer is to get on a bike with mid controls, and one with forward controls, to get an idea of what you find more comfortable. though you can switch between the two, it's an expensive one to change. you can always change the seat if you are worried about comfort, and a seat can move you up, down, forward, back on the bike to give you that "in the bike" feeling you're looking for. here are pictures of the same bikes from the factory, but what you can do to them to change them how you want: (actually all these bikes are from guys on this forum and some of my personal favorites)

I will chime in with the Dealer thing. One thing about the various models though. They might look big at first but I have found that the more a person rides, the more they get used to it and sooner or later, it won't look so big.

I've never really understood the argument that one bike over the other is better suited for "urban" riding. I've had all manner of sizes of Harleys. From sportys to my new Street Glide. I live in Phoenix and do more than my share of urban riding and have never had an issue riding any of my bikes in that environment.

My suggestion to the OP is to go to the dealer and see what you like and fits you the best, then try to find one that fits your budget. That simple. Touring bikes can be ridden anywhere and the smaller bikes can be setup for comfortable distance riding as well.

I like that second bike with the bags stretched! What kind is that?

That's exactly the look I would want but I've never seen stretched bags on a fatboy!
