So after a year of trying to dial in the Thundermax I finally got it solved. I would get pinging in 4th 5th and 6th gears between 23oo and 3400 rpm's between 25-75% throttle when a bit of load was put on the motor, like a hill between 55-75mph. I originally dialed out about 3 to 4 degrees of timing and it was better but not quite right especially in hot weather. After taking out another 3 degrees I sent the map to TMaxx and they took out two more degrees and said it should be fine. Still have the same problem. I finally called Jamie at Fuel Moto and he said to take out more timing as it could run as low as 16 to 19 degrees in that range. I did that and now its running better than ever, like a top with no pinging and still pulls in 5th and 6th gear, no problem, no ping. It also has more power & runs cooler. I don't know what tmax was thinking with 30 degree timing in that cruise range. I use their map 838 which was for their cams which are close to my woods 555 and true duals. I now have that timing range down 11 degrees from the original map from 2300-3800 rpm, 25-75% throttle and the same wide open. So if you have a pinging problem don't be afraid to bring that timing way down. Tmax timing can be quite agressive on some maps. I've read that others have found the same problem. Thanks Jamie from Fuel Moto for coming to the rescue.

My Softail came with a ThunderMax and I know it needs to be dialed in but I don't know the first thing about a ThunderMax and how to do that. I need to start some reading up on it cause I'm getting pinging too. How difficult is it?
This guy has a few more tutorial on his YouTube channel and you can also find him over on Harley Tech Talk, which has a lot of knowledgeable T-Max gurus. I've got my bike dialed in pretty close to this plus I shaved a bit more for the cams. I've never needed 6th gear since.
Gas mileage sucks tho...

It says--"This video is unavailable." Too bad too. My T-Max is making me run soggy. Every day when I get home I open the petcock of my catch-can and get 1/16" of gasoline in a small cup. I'd like to learn more. There should be a book.

It isn't that difficult once you understand the process. Always read the installed map when connecting. It is a bit time consuming to read, adjust and write maps so I save it to my lap top, make my adjustments and send it to the tmax unless its a quick change. It pays to print all the instructions. Reading, writing and saving is important to understand. Also fuel and timing adjustments can be done individually or by grouping but either way you end up doing individual adjustments across the range. It took me a while to get it but it paid off.

That's what I need to do, take the time to understand the process. I've just been putting it off. Once I get that down I think I'll be ok. Thanks.

Open the software and under the Help section you can download the tuning manual. I printed mine out and put it in a binder. It makes for good reading in the crapper.
