Just last week I ordered, got and installed the HD mustache guard on my '13 Street Bob (not in the sig pic yet).
The instructions do say that the guard "may" provide protection to bike and legs in stopped and low-speed falls. Looking at the design, I'd say that this model would do an adequate job in that area as well as any other.
I'd held off on a guard because I was concerned about the look, but my cost-benefit thinking finally convinced me that a downgrade in appearance was worth the potential to save damage and pain in case I drop the bike.
I was pleasantly surprised that the guard actually looks good, and I think improved the appearance of my Bob. Subjective, I suppose, but my opinion is the only one that matters to me.
I second this. I have the Multibar installed and am embarrassed to admit I have tipped it over twice. Both times in the driveway while washing it. Both times the Multibar kept it from going over far enough to do any damage at all.
I have a 2014 Wide Glide with the HD Mustache Bars. When compared to the full HD Engine bars, the bottom half of the Mustache bar has the similar profile as the full bars. The top of the bars are where the difference is.
The bottom half of the Engine bars is where the protection of the shifter, pegs, rear brake and low engine parts comes from. The top half of the full engine bars protects very little as the handle bars and bar controls would "hit" and aren't really protected by engine bars.
