After years and years of pushing our Harleys as hard as they can be pushed one thing is for certain some parts will be sacrificed as wear items in the twisties. Floor boards/pegs, mufflers, jiffy/kickstands and outer primary covers occasionally. The more lean angle you build in the farther over you can go before wear items start making contact with asphalt. All hazards of the business.

Most twisties are found in absolutely beautiful mountain country. If you're there for the twisties thrill, get a Ducati. Otherwise, enjoy the scenery...it's a good thing.

I have ridden the same twisty road both ways. When you're riding hard, you have to concentrate so much that all you remember is the road and the bike...and that's ok if that's what you want to do.

There's so much more out there. I prefer slowing down and smelling the jasmine.

There should be a like button. The best handling HD I've ever ridden was an FXR. I've not had a chance to challenge an FXD in the same way, so I can't speak to them.

The worst handling bike I've ever been on? My beloved Kaw VN800 classic. Fun bike but scary handling.

Thanks to everyone to all the posts--one of the more intelligent response threads. . And no my bikes not lowered. And yes on the shift your body off centerline into the corner--I used to be a knee dragger. Unlike racing, I tend to use my lane in line of attack instead of the whole pavement. Never certain what's coming around the corner. Maybe I'm just getting old LOL but had several WTH moments in surprise that I was scraping.

Just last week a friend and I were riding up the mountain together. He was on a Street Bob and I was on my FXR. While he felt it handled the twisties much better than his Softail, he knew he couldn't push as hard as my FXR. The Street Bob is a real nice bike for sure. But in stock form, they only have 4.7" of ground clearance as opposed to my FXR's 6.75". My stock 13.75" shocks actually gave it 6" of ground clearance. I picked up the extra .75" from the custom air shocks.

I hear what you're saying about slowing down and smelling the flowers. I do that sometimes as well, when I'm on my cruiser. The best of both worlds IMO.
