I was unaware that brake fluid did not conform to the physical properties of all othe known liquids. Guess that is why is costs so much, so it won't expand when heated.... Not. The only change to brake fluid that absorbs moisture is lowering the boiling point.
In the OP's defense, though it IS necessary to change fluid every year or two, how many of us "check" the hydraulics of the brake? It either works or is spongy, needing bleeding or repair. Racing on the Dragon, both I and my riding bud have lost a brake to overheating, and our crap ain't dirty or idle long enough to moistureize.(sp) The fluid probably was boiling.
We don't race any more. Bad for longevity.

I'm not an eggspurt in physics but I thought when moisture boils it turns into a gas.
I guess my old 84 Iron Head Sporty did not know about that as I rode it for 23 years and 50,000 miles and never changed the brake fluid. I will have to make a note of that for my 99 Softail Custom as it still has the original brake fluid also. It only has 45,000 miles on it though.

You just described utter carelessness. Stay off of our roads, please. LUCK doesn't always work. You can risk your motor. But you should NEVER, EVER, risk steering or brakes on ANY vehicle. I'll try not to call you some nasty name here.
Well, I'll stand up and admit that I've never heard of this happening. I do check for brake hold and release before every ride. I wouldn't ride with a brake that was dragging.

Clean brake fluid doesn't expand when it gets hot, but brake fluid that is contaminated with air and/or water will.
All fluids expand when heated, and water has one of the lowest volumetric thermal expansion rates of most listed fluids...so brake fluid contaminated with water would expand less.
