I have done onedocumenetd SS1000,and a few undocumented. The most important things to me are a comfortable seat and good wind protection.
Time management is very important on these rides. It is very tempting, after a certain point,to turn a 10 minute fuel/rest stop into 30 minutes.

I have a few friends from my BMW riding days that belong to the Iron Butt Association. I have even ridden with them on some of their trips. I just don't get it. I have ridden straight thru from Northeast Ohio to Daytona and back atleast a dozen times. I have been riding for atleast 40 years. To me it is a hassle keeping track of things. Most of the time I like to take my time and see where I have been. The hard core Iron butters only see concrete. And as soon as they get somewhere, they need to be somewhere else. I can ride as far as I need to and I don't need a bumper sticker telling the world I have an Iron butt. Although, If you really care to know, the furthest I have ever gone in a day is 1175 miles in 19 hours. ( Estes Park, CO to Elkhart, Ind.) And when I think back it wasn't one of my most memorable rides. But anyway, if it gets you off go for it....CJ

I would dare to say alot of truckers do this pretty often , with multiple log books but I would say with GPS and satellite tracking that will come to an end someday. I might try a ss 1000 but I often wonder if this is pushing the limits of being safe. I have traveled 22 hrs in a car and 17-18 in a pickup but a bike is another animal.

Four guys I know from my area did the four corner ride a couple years ago, that around 11K miles in 23 days. I would love to do this ride but its hard to find a riding partner who can afford this trip or who can get that much time off.

The four corners I'm talkin about are far north-east Maine, down toKey West, over to San Diego and up to far north-west Washington state. Sounds like a blast of a ride. Anyone in my area interested???

I'd be game for that...but not for a year or two before I could accumulate the required time off. sounds like a sweet ride.
