I rented a RK for a day. I also rented a Switchback for a day. I enjoyed the RK, but I didnt love the SB. The only dyna for rental in Myrtle Beach was the Switchback. I figured it was a Dyna so it would give me the feel of the Bob?
But I didnt like the feel.

Maybe the FB will feel different? I know the twin lamps in the front and rear will make me feel cool as hell!

Guess I was typing when a couple reply's came in. As far as long trips go, I had no problem on the Sturgis run, over 5100 miles on my Super Glide.

If all your gonna do it bar hop.. then a bar hopper will do you fine..

If your gonna do some road trips.. then THINK a bike that'll do you fine on the Road..

I've had my Heritage for 8yrs and it will do both.....BUT the Leather and Spots is not for the YOUNGER KIDs....

YOU just need to look at your Needs VS your wants....

I've seen tooooooo many guys buy their bike for Looks and then trade then in a yr later for the bike they need...

Most guys feel cramped up on the Street Bob, Low Rider and Switch Back because the mid mounted foot pegs & controls. The handle bars are closer to the rider also! Great bikes if your average to small sized person.
The Wide Glide & Fat Bob offer more leg room & arm reach provides better cruising comfort if your a bigger guy.
All the Dynas have different ride & fit characteristics. Try em all before you decide.
The Fat Bob is the best handling of the Dyna line. The Fat Bob stops better than the other Dynas. Twin front rotors. Its the hot Rod of the Dyna Line.

Back again to what bike is going to fit you better. If your 5'8 & over a bigger bike like the Road King is going to fit you better than a smaller Dyna. Are you planning long weekend rides or just cruising around hard for the day.

Go with a bigger bike if your planning cross country trips. I ride a Fat Bob because I only like ripping around town & past older dudes on dressers. Think of the type of riding your going to do the most. That should make the decision easier to come by.

Try to buy a Sportster, they try and sell you a Dyna.

Try and buy a Dyna, they try and sell you a Softail.

Try a buy a Soft tail and they try and sell you a bagger...

See the trend? Don't trust the stealership. They're only out to steal as much money from you as possible.

This would be my advice.

Lots of advice here, which means there are folks willing to try to help. That's a good thing, typical of the Forums.

Bottom line......you need to buy what you are comfortable riding. No one's advice will mean squat when you're riding it and you used your money/credit to buy it.

Just a clarification on the notion that the salesman is out to make a bigger commission when he suggests the more expensive ride. Not all dealers' sales staffs are on commission. I have two friends that sell Harley's - one is commission, one is salaried.

Good luck making up your mind. When you do, ride safe and enjoy it to the max!!

Take the fatbob for a test ride, it'll feel a bit different than the switchback. If short rides are all you want, then a new road king is overkill, in my mind. If you try the fatbob and don't like the ergos of it, you could also try the lowrider, it's another great Dyna with dual front brakes!

Have fun, and good luck!

One more point; will your significant other ride behind you? If not, then a hot rod would be a lot of fun. I was thrilled (and I'm an old guy) when I test rode a 1200 Sportster 'cause it really cranked. But I ride an Ultra Classic day in and day out, maybe do a little fill in grocery shopping, or go for a 300 mile day ride, or even a cross country road trip. It does it all, but won't rip around the old guys on their dressers.
