National and local. I'malways ready to go riding and the local chapter gives me somewhere different to go and something different to do. It doesn't limit me at all, if i have something better to do or somewhere better to go i do that, if i'm bored i can do their weekly Sunday ride or dinner run. Most of the guys in our local are good guys just out for a fun ride.

National and Local (Worcester, MA) as it came with the bike when we bought it in December. Took our first ride last week with the local chapter and had a really great time........much more so than I had anticipated. Met some really great people and had a ton of laughs. At this point, I would say when the time comes to sign up again I will gladly do it.

I'll belong to the National as long as I own a Harley, not that I get much out of it other than the magazines. As to the local, I joined for the 10% discount. Like many local chapters, mine is dominated by a core group of folks who basically run things. Lots of new owners join, attend a meeting or two, and vanish. I've never really been part of HarleyWorld, don't enjoy the rallys and bike shows, don't like group riding, and am not much of a joiner, and never had the energy, time or interest to try to break into the inner circle of the local. Not knocking the overall H.O.G. scene, it's my choice not to participate.

Belong to Cut-N-Shoot local chapter. One oftop 2 or 3 largest in the US. Joined Feb.2005 and have enjoyed every minute of it. Great people and lots of fun times. Raised a little over $100,000 for charities last year. Lots of riding. They have ride planned to Sturgis, Little Rock, and all over Texas. Did a ride to go see Wild Hogs and had 260 people show up.
There are some small clicks, but when you have that many people you are gonna have them. 1100 people are not gonna all get along all the time.

For me it is worth it.

I know I will get alot of negative feed-back, but I don't see any advantage to belonging to HOG. My bike insurance has road service, so I don't need that, and all the mag. has is people bragging about how good Harleys are. Years ago when I rode Goldwings, a member of GWRRA got a 20% discount at any Honda dealer on parts, mention HOG to a Harley dealer and ask for a discount and watch them laugh at you. Our local chapter really complains about not attending the meetings and events, not considering that some of us work week-ends and nights. I love my Harley, but not HOG.

having been to some events that HOG has attended, i gotta say that it appears to me to be an org for people who are new to motorcycling that need someone to show them around.

once you get to know the motorcycling community you will find that there are many great clubs that are not part of a corporate product line. as far as im concerned, that goes for any of the manufacturer built "clubs" such as HOG, Star, GWRRA, and whatever else.

local riding clubs usually have better clubhouses too.

Lifetime national. Tried their breakdown service once... NEVER AGAIN!! I got AAA Plus RV. Much better service.
In my experience and in talking to my rep at AAA, they do not offer MC breakdown service except to bring you gas or a slim jim to unlock your bike! This is in California so it may be different in your neck of the woods. In any case, I'd double check your coverage. I also have the AAA Plus RV.

South Bay, Ca chapter here. Initially joined last june for the discount, went to a couple meetings and on a few rides, and realized that I actually like these people. I'm now on the activities committee with the wife, and have been having a real blast going on most of the rides.

I found that once you start to get involved, the cliques seem to open right up

weirder than that, its just Northern California. Southern Cal triple A i think does offer motorcycle support.
