Default How low can ya get the fender down when using the struts?

New bike project this winter. Had a question about rear fenders. Mount on the swing arm or struts (softail frame).. Basically I wanted to put the rear fender down as far as I could, but didn't like the way the seat looked when the fender is mounted to swing arm... The question is how low can you mount the rear fender when bolting it to the struts so the tire doesn't hit the fender when going over bumps????
Thanks,
Nate

I made struts that went inside of the rear fender. I re enforced the frame and bolted the "strutless" fender to the frame. I unbolted the shocks from the swing arm (softail) and let the weight of the frame force the swing arm to rest against the bumpers. I placed a length of garden hose lengthwise across the top of the tire and then placed the fender on the tire. I marked the fender where it touched the frame and then cut the struts to fit.
