Default Rear shock (air or progressive)

I'm thinking about taking the progressive back shocks off they are set medium and still bottom out with about 130 lb passenger. I have the original air shocks that it came with, but noticed that the box they are in looks like some oil has leaked out maybe. How do you know if the shock has enough oil in it? I have always liked the air shock better and understand the progressive is for a bigger load, but most of the time its just me on my ultra. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

I drained and refilled my stock shocks with 10wt shock oil and put a little too much in it so I just completely collapsed the shock ( in the upright position) and let the extra oil flow out…it's been a year or so and no problems.. Can't remember the correct amount but I'm sure a quick search will give you the answer..

There are threads on HDF about draining and refilling the air shocks, including using different grades of oil. You may find them here or over in the Touring section.

You will find that shocks is a topic that comes up frequently, should you wish to research it further!

You can change the oil in the air shocks,i think i used 7 wt.belray but for the best ride you need to talk to Howard at motorcyclemetal.com.You will love the way it rides.

If the budget allows, get with Howard, I would go Ohlins or JRI. We put Progressive '944' on 3 bikes and '444' on 1. The 444 went on a solo 240# rider is ok. The 944 bikes all 2 up @ 325# total are such an improvement after all the fussing we did with shock oil & PSI changes.
Good luck
