Default changing oil on rear shock, possible?

I KNOW I read it here, but when I seach for it, it's gone...................
I just did the fork and both my scoot and I are happy now.
Now looking at the rear shocks.........
Can I swap out the oil on my '91 Electra shocks???????????
Me thinks if I unhook the air lines pop off the springs and tilt the shock, oil should? pour out as I pump it.
Measure the amount, somehow squirt it back in, (my brake bleeder hypo may work with a small hose).
But before I ruin a set of shocks that work, I better ask some people who may have done it before.
Thanks!
Joe
Well the world is in balance..................
My '74 jeep leaks fliuds
My Harley leaks fluids
and now that I'm getting more "mature" I'm starting to leak fluids!

Get new shocks, do not try to rebuild. I ride a 90 fxrs-sp, went to progressive rear shocks, WOW, major diff, same with the forks, I plan on going to modern technology springs instead of staying with the the air bladder anti-dive tech thats 20 years old! you'll be glad you did! It ain't just the oil that goes bad, you have seals and what not that are for the most part throw aways, stock shocks are made for two up, which translates to a hard *** ride one up.

I've changed the oil in my shocks successfully unfortunately I wasn't happy with the results and ended up buying a new set of progressives. Basicly I used a hydraulic press with the air vlve removed and pumped the oil out. I used the hydraulic press to put the oil back in by compressing them and then while decompressing the oil gets pulled back in. There is lots of info on the subject http://www.google.ca/#q=changing+har...a=2&fp=1&cad=b
google is your friend

I bought low mile take-offs on ebay, cheap. Touring model air shocks ride good, that's why all the Sportster guys are going to them.

My shocks work well, but I figured it's a '91 the oil has to be crappy.
If I ruin them, well, all the more reason to buy new ones!
