I dropped the fairing off my Street Glide last weekend and shattered the lens of a brand new 7" DayMaker headlight. Called the local HD dealer and JW Speaker tech line but they didn't have any options other than buying another headlight.
Was told by a local mechanic that I might be able to cut the lens off the original stock headlight. Before I do that, does anyone know of any other options (beyond buying a new DayMaker)?
Dude, that sucks...I was thinking about taking mine apart to try and adjust the high beam pattern, but. It looks like they're sealed up pretty well...I think your only shot other than shucking out another big chunk of cash would be to try rigging another lens...best of luck, and let us know what happens!
I was talking to the salesman at a HD dealer and he told me a stone cracked his Daymaker a month after he got and the only option was to purchase a new headlight, just repeating what I was told.
Looks as if you have already identified the two options! I'm not so sure about the lens one. Xmas is coming - anyone in your family need suggestions for a present for ya?!
A couple of years ago I had a similar issue with a first generation J W Speaker 8700 glass lens headlamp when a stone shattered it! Through the UK authorised supplier of J W Speaker products I managed to get two spare glass lenses at a cost of Ł25 each! Not sure about the polycarbonate ones but by the sound of it it does not sound promising.
If you have to go the new route, look at some of the options on Amazon. I picked up the one by Sunpie last year and it’s been great, and at the difference in price between the HD one, I could buy close to 10 of them.
IMO...sux, but you'll probably waste more time trying to fix & make it look/function properly than buying a clone on eBay. Got my 5.75" Dyna light for ~$50 vs. HD's inflated price. Good luck!
