So, I have seen a few other posts similar but I have yet to get a decent bit of information on my issue. So I layed down my 2005 HD Sportster at about 5 MPH trying to come quickly to a stop as one of my delightful apartment neighbors decided they didn't need to acknowledge the stop sign. It went down on the left and was down less than a minute. Now it wont start. pulled of the air filter and washed the fuel out of it IAW HD owners manual for cleaning the filter. I pulled the spark plugs out and aired out the block. Still wont start. Besides some scratched up chrome there's no visible damage. after letting it sit overnight I went through the start-up and all the lights are good, and I get no tip light so the tip sensor should have reset. I also get plenty of clicking off the starter. Initially it give a half hearted chug but doesn't really try and turn over. After that, just starter. I am pretty sure I flooded it, but any advice is really helpful right now (outside of get a smaller bike, I have heard that, yes I know 1200cc is powerful and not suggested as a starter bike and i also know that the price was right, I'm getting training, I'm pretty cautious, and I weigh in at 215) . Hey thanks in advance.
"I also get plenty of clicking off the starter. Initially it give a half hearted chug but doesn't really try and turn over"...That was the important statement..and it was so far down...almost an afterthought.
"Still won't start" and "I also get plenty of clicking off the starter. Initially it give a half hearted chug but doesn't really try and turn over" are completely different.
Ok, did you try "cranking" / "turning it over" with the spark plugs out and preferably grounded (put the plugs back in the cable boots and let threaded portion lay on engine or use jumper wires from threaded portion to metal portion of bike). Btw, also look for spark at plugs if the engine now happens to turn over.
Manually reset the bank angle sensor by cycling the ignition switch to the on/off/on/off positions a few times, then leave it in the off position for about 30 seconds before trying to fire it up.
If that doesn't do it, check the charge on your battery and make sure the connections at both ends are tight.
Does your Sportster also have a security system? You may have to reset that as well.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the help. Checked out the plugs and having no spark in both, after cleaning them, sent me to the battery. tested out with 11.42V on a 12V battery so it was a surprise that it wouldn't turn over, But I guess that is not unusual. Jumped it and got it running till it was running smooth with the choke down. Looks like I will be buying a tender when I get paid.
