Soooooooooo. Had the batwing off tonight, greasing the neck bearings and installing my new LRS screen. Putting it all back together I managed to crossthread one of the lower inserts. The screw is in there, but next time I have it apart I'll replace the insert. And therein is the question, do these inserts screw out or? The P/N is 16585-96 and its on an '07 Ultra
Well you'd think by know I'd know enough to search before asking, guess not! Found multiple posts, appears later one screw out. Come to think of it, I use similar inserts in woodworking, bet they're the same deal.

Took the fairing off this morning, got lucky. Was able to run a 1/4 20 standard tap through the insert. The threads cleaned up okay. The hole that the insert mounts in is deep enough to allow the use of a standard tap. But it leads me to another question. Had the threads been so screwed up that I had to replace the insert, how do you get the old one out? I did do a search, nobody seems to address the removal of the old insert
